Joyce Ochola

Joyce is a faithful member of Word of Faith Church in Ndhiwa, serving alongside Rose on the usher team that cleans the worship space after services.

• She runs a scrap metal business in which she borrows money at interest every day from an industrial scale scrap metal purchaser, purchases scrap metal from individuals, then delivers the metal to the purchaser. After the amount she borrowed is returned and the daily interest is deducted, she makes very little.

• She is a single mother of seven children; her husband abandoned her, and his family offers no help.

• She has a plan to create her own scrap metal collection site where people will bring her the metal, she will pay for it with her own money rather than borrowing, and then she will sell it to the industrial scale purchaser. She will not have to borrow money and pay interest every day and, because people will bring the metal to her, she can increase her volume dramatically. It will also keep her home with her children.

• Joyce has requested the equivalent of $300 USD to provide her with the startup capital she needs to launch her new business model.
